Meeting Start Time: 12:01pm

Attending:-
·         John Hartill
·         Abby Colclough
·         Drew Brockbank
·         Chloe Lowe
·         Jacob Moorfoot
·         Mikey Barker

Discussed during Production Meeting #1 -
At the beginning of the meeting John Hartill addressed roles and made sure each member understood their general role within the production. It was also noted that a runner/camera assistant had been externally sourced for the production.

John Hartill then discussed a proposed budget, with each crew member agreeing to £50 each; it was also proposed and agreed that Mikey Barker, for having a slightly lesser role during the production, would contribute half of the original agreement. A total budget of £275 was agreed upon by all crew members.
Providing at the end of production, that all payments and receipts are confirmed, if the remaining budget was below a total of £50 that we would donate it to the end of year show.

Each crew member mentioned what equipment they would prefer to work with. Abby Colclough noted the P2 camera as a primary means of capturing the visuals.
Jacob Moorfoot requested to use the Zoom H6 to record the audio.
Chloe Lowe mentioned she will be using Avid for cutting the footage, DaVinci for colour correcting and After Effects for any additional editing.
Drew Brockbank brought up the fact his brother owns a drone, he showed the crew some footage it captured, and he will enquire about the licenses he has/needs in order for the drone to be used within the production.
Mikey Barker agreed to start on the first draft of ‘The Babysitter’.
John Hartill agreed to enquire about what lighting is available without the need for a generator for the other micro shorts. John Hartill also agreed to use the first draft to start looking into potential actors and locations to be agreed upon with Drew Brockbank.
An ‘Equipment Rehearsal’ has been arranged for the 8th Feb. for all crew to familiarise themselves with kit.

Live 2 - Babysitter Recce #4

Again with this location, size and space was an issue, it was even difficult to take photo's within the areas throughout the location.

Live 2 - Babysitter Recce #3

Location #3 had everything we were looking for, excellent splashes of color throughout to give the location a nice natural depth. It had large open spaces that would allow a full shoot to operate with ease. This location also allowed us to, we feel, a higher production value than the other locations.

Live 2 - Babysitter Recce #2

The second location was not chosen, due to lack of space, and things that would of effected the atmosphere we wanted to create. i.e. the lights of the fish tank  would affect the overall mood, and avoiding the noise it makes would be quite troublesome.

Live 2 - Babysitter Recce #1

Recce #1 - We agreed that this place was to small in terms of moving around equipment, so this location was not going to be used.

Live 2 - Open Auditions

We hosted an open audition session, which was very slow paced through out the day due to minimal responses. However, we did get introduced to George Collings who came later in the evening. Drew chose him for the role of Reggie Reynolds, half way through the audition, and he has played the role brilliantly.

Live 2 - Losing 'Killer in the Back Seat'

Me and Drew Brockbank discussed the necessity of 'Killer in the Back Seat' at great length. It was agreed upon that its content didn't really add to the overall arc; it felt like a repetition of another. After working out how to maintain the content to allow the story to flow, it was merged with another. This was then approved by Di Fletcher.

Live 2 - Equipment Rehearsal #2

The second rehearsal extended from the first, allowing the crew to implement their tests on some scenes from the scripts; this also went well, and although not taking it too seriously still learnt a lot about how the lighting will effect the scenes.

Live 2 - Equipment Rehearsal #1

Our first lighting test was to see what we could achieve with the lights we had available; in part because we knew wee would be limited on some shoots. It was a fun, creative session with the crew allowing many tests. A video has been uploaded onto YouTube from this test.

Live 2 - Festival Timeline

Live 2 - Character Profiling Concepts

The Radio Presenter
(Reggie Reynolds)
This character will be featured in each micro short, playing music that would slightly foreshadow the event of the micro short it appears in.

The Radio Presenter will also be reporting the killers activity from the previous micro short; the first micro short will have the Radio Presenter reporting the killers activity prior to the micro short.

The Killer

(Jack)

This character will be perceived calm and collected. Almost methodical and his events will seem planned out. All his victims are female.

An attractive and young man, he will be presentable but almost hollow/void of emotion. He will be revealed towards the end of each micro short.

The Date

(April – Hook Man)

April will have a cautious feel, as she creates a false belief that someone is watching her.

•She will appear on edge throughout the micro short; going from quite and shy through to terrified.

Pizza Delivereer

(Kath – KitBS)

Kath will be coming home from work while still wearing her delivery clothes on her drive home.

Kath will be a chirpy and cheerful character; never aware of the Killer.

Deliverer’s Husband

(Mike - KitBS)

A passive-aggressive kind of guy. Will whinge and moan at Kath for leaving her wedding ring at home.

Mike will also be asking for Kath to bring food home.

His attitude will fluctuate throughout the conversation with Kath.

Live 2 - Moodboard

Live 2 - The Babysitter: Concept

The Babysitter

1.Julie and David come down the stairs, and enter the living room where Rebecca is sat.
2.They tell her that the kids are fast asleep but they have been having bad dreams about someone in their room all week. Rebecca said that if they wake up she will be okay to calm them down.
3.Julie and David give her the number of restaurant, say thank you, their goodbyes and leave.
4.Rebecca sets up some of her work on the coffee table and picks up her phone. She calls her boyfriend, Brandon, to find out he will be there in an hour and they say I love you. She ends the call and starts to do her work.
5.A few pages later her phone rings. She answers it without looking and asks Brandon if he forgot to mention something. Jack replies with “have you checked on the kids?” and disconnects.
6.Lucy rings David but it goes to answer machine, she tells them she thinks she got a call off him from his wife’s phone but it cut off, the kids are fine and for him to ring her back.
7.She puts the phone down and goes back to her work, later in the night her phone goes again. Before she has time to speak, Jack asks “have you checked on the kids?” and disconnects.

8.Confused, Rebecca gets the restaurant number and calls them. She asks the man on the other end of the phone if Mr & Mrs Borden (David and Julie) are still there. The man tells them they left about twenty minutes ago. Rebecca says thankyou and puts the phone down.
9.Just as she puts the phone down her phone rings. Rebecca ignores it. Shortly after it rings again. She answers asking    who it is; Jack replies with “have you checked on the kids?”. Rebecca ends the call and rings Brandon.
10.Brandon answers telling her he is on his way. She tells him she is getting scared from the unknown calls. Brandon asks her to calm down, turn off the lights and to just listen to the radio so it looks like nobody is home and she will have something to concentrate on until he gets there. They say ‘I love you’ and end the call.
11.Rebecca turns on the radio and turns off all the lights. She tunes the radio to station; Reggie Reynolds Breaking News comes on as she sits back down [Lisa’s Murder].
12.As the news finishes her phone goes again; Rebecca asks him to stop the prank calls; but Jack asks her why she turned off all the lights. Panicking she looks through the blinds while asking him if he can see her. He tells her, he can.
13.Rebecca backs away from the window shouting down the phone about being terrified and asks him if that’s what he wants. Jack replies with “No…I want you to check on the kids.” And disconnects.
14.Rebecca runs up the stair into the kids’ room, to find them covered in blood. As she screams Jack comes up behind her with a large knife.

Live 2 - Don't Turn on the Lights: Concept

Don’t Turn on the Lights

1.Sammy comes into Lisa’s room and asks her if she is coming out for drinks

3.Sammy’s phone beeps and she tells Lisa that Danny is outside. They say bye and Sammy leaves the room.
4.Jack stands across the street of student accommodation with the pizza, a car is outside.
5.Jack walks over to the main door. As he goes to press the button, Sammy comes through the door. She asks if the pizza is for Lisa to which Jack agrees.
6.Sammy lets Jack in and tells him Lisa’s door number. Jack goes inside, as Sammy gets into Danny’s car.
7.Jack knocks on Lisa’s door, she opens the door.
8.Jack is in Lisa’s room, he turns on the radio and turns off the lights and leaves.
9.Jack is walking away from the building as he makes a call on his phone asking the receiving party “have you checked on the kids?”
10.Danny pulls up and Sammy gets out the car and enters the building, Danny drives off.
11.Sammy goes in Lisa’s room, barely able to make anything out, she staggers to the bed and notices Lisa in tucked up. Sammy listen to the radio (Reggie Reynolds Breaking News [Kath’s Murder]) then turns it off and leaves.

12.The following morning Sammy goes into Lisa’s room to find her dead in her bed, covered and blood and a blood smeared message on the wall of “Aren’t you glad you didn’t turn on the lights?”

Live 2 - Killer in the Back Seat: Concept

Killer in the Back Seat

1.Kath pulls up around the corner of the pizza shop, and runs in.
2.Jack is walking down the street and notices this, he gets into the back of the car out of sight.
3.Kath gets back in the car and places a pizza on the passenger seat, then sets off.
4.Mike, Kath’s Husband, calls her, to which she answers.
5.During a conversation about finishing work and coming home with food, Jack draws a knife.
6.Kath ends the call and turns up the radio and listens to Reggie Reynolds Breaking News [April’s Murder].
7.Due to the high volume, Jack manages to sit up in the back seat with his knife at the ready without being noticed.
8.Kath pulls up outside her house, Jack grabs her and kills her.

9.Jack picks up the pizza, gets out the car and walks away, while he makes a call on his phone asking the receiving party “have you checked on the kids?”

8.Jack walks away with a smirk on his face, throwing the hook into the bushes.

9.Jack makes a call on his phone asking the receiving party “have you checked on the kids?”

Live 2 - Research: Urban Legends

For this module I have proposed to use Urban Legends as a key source point to produce a short film.

  • A series of 4 micro shorts of around 3-5 minutes each.
  • Collectively making a 12-16 minute short.
  • A continuation through the main character as the killer in the micro shorts.
  • Each micro short will be based around an Urban Legend.
  • A dark tone across the collective short.
  • A use of harsh lighting, with a  mixture of under lighting and low key lighting.
  • More focused to a horror/thriller vibe.

I was thinking what if, they aren’t all different killers, what if it’s one killer who committed infamous murders that became Urban Legends over time?

None of that teen/student group thing, where they all get slowly picked off. But four individual stories, with connections running through each.

Beginning with a remote location with a couple in a car, the murder takes place in the tale of ‘The Hook Man’, with the Killer quickly leaving the scene.
The following micro short would continue from the killer leaving the scene and starting the development of ‘The Killer in the Back Seat’ the murder of a woman delivering pizza.
The third micro short will pick up with the killer carrying the pizza to be delivered. Mistakingly let in to the student accommodation by a student leaving. The killer makes his way to the room of his next murder for ‘Don’t Turn on the Lights’.

The fourth instalment will be ‘The Baby Sitter’ in which the killer will prey upon an unsuspecting baby sitter for his final murder within the collection. The series of disturbing phone calls that take place in this micro short, will also be seen from the killers perspective during the three prior micro shorts.
