The second brief “The Loudest Whisper” with Lovelier
Productions, which consisted of using mobile phones to record the event over
two days; was an interesting project to be a part of. It contained no complete
equipment that we would typically expect to use. I felt like this brief was
less aimed for technical skills but for development in communication,
management and teamwork as a collective crew. During the Friday shoot we split
into two smaller crews due to our transport arrangements. I enjoyed filming the
event during this day, but arguments between crew members ensued. This was
mainly due to two members leaving early; this was allowed in terms of the
contract we signed at the beginning of the day, but some of the other crew
members were not happy with this. I also left due to our driver needing to
leave. If I didn’t I would have been at the home of the production with no way
to get to the locations for the rest of the day, rendering me to no use to the
crew.
I also went to the shoot on Saturday which was smaller as
one crew member didn't travel from Hartlepool to the shoot. This was a much
more enjoyable day as it felt busier and more interesting. I also enjoyed
working with this crew more than Friday’s crew as they seemed a lot more
professional about the day whilst still being enjoyable company throughout. I
also gained three contacts from this shoot which I can use in the future; one
is an editor, another is an event organizer and the last one can be hired
potentially as audience for films.
My biggest concern with this opportunity was the arguing
between crew members. I was even told that threats were made to a crew member
that came close to physical violence. I think this is an absolutely disgusting,
unprofessional way to act not only as a crew member but as friends. This has
completely ruined my experience from this weekend which I am greatly unhappy
with as a working professional trying to make the most out of every opportunity
I can get my hands on.
